How to Win at Poker
Whether you’re an expert poker player or just starting out, there are several ways to win at poker. You can learn how to win at stud, draw, and community card games.
Blinds
Whether you are new to poker or a seasoned veteran, learning about blinds in poker will help you dominate the tables. Learn how to steal blinds, which will improve your in-money rate and boost long-term profitability in tournaments.
The first two players to act in every betting round are the blinds. The small blind is placed by the player to the left of the dealer button, while the big blind is placed by the player to the left of the small blind. The blinds are forced bets that must be placed before the cards are distributed. They serve two purposes in poker, as they help to generate action, and they encourage players to play more hands.
Stud variants
Unlike the traditional game of poker, stud is played with a 52 card deck. The dealer will typically deal three cards to each player. The winner is the player with the highest five card poker hand. A bet is typically required in order to start the game. Stud is played in fixed and no-limit variations. It is not uncommon to see a poker tournament with as many as 22 participants.
Razz
Almost everyone knows about Seven Card Stud, but not many people know about the lowball variant, Razz. Although it is technically not a new poker variant, it has been gaining popularity among longtime players and stud enthusiasts alike. In fact, some casinos, including Borgata, have approved the game, and some have even begun spreading it on their tables.
The best part is, it’s easy to play. Unlike Stud, you can actually bet on the outcome of the hand. It’s also an ideal game to play in a poker tournament, where you get a chance to interact with your fellow players.
